As you all know I just moved and I have a large cedar lined chest that I want to use to store a portion of my knife collection. Problem is I seem to recall someone saying it could be bad for high carbon steel knives.
Any one have an opinion? or a link?
Thanks

Nonsense, Ted. Cedar will keep the moths from eating your handles and sheaths.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Isn't the cedar smell from the oil in the wood? I can't imagine any kind of oil being harmful to steel, but ya never know. Safe for wool sweaters but destroys knives would be a very odd combination indeed.

I cannot fathom how they would be harmful to steel.

I know that the tannins in oak will stain a blade when you chop it. I would think that a protective coat of light oil or some nice Johnson's wax would protect the blades. Put some dessicant in there, too.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
