I would think that by polishing the edge you are also thinning it out. Therefore there isn't as much metal and it will wear out quicker.

I need to get some sandpaper and a strop, I've got a Falkniven H1 that I need to sharpen up and it's factory convex. One of my favorite hunting knives, great for skinning work.

I have seen the fist episode which is shown online at amctv.com. But I don't get AMC here. I don't have cable. I do all my TV viewing on Hulu,Netflix, Boxee etc.

I've often thought of the convex edge and conceptually know how to do it. Just haven't seen a need to change the way I sharpen knives after 56 years. Works for me just fine.

You said once the AFRTS was pretty up to date with current shows and didn't know if they would be showing it or not. I wonder if they will broadcast each weeks show the following week on their site. THAT would be neat.

Most of my edges turn into convex from my naturally sloppy sharpening technique. Grandpa showed me as a child how to sharpen a knife and said it didn't matter if you keep the same angle every stroke and that seems to hold true for me.

I tried the Sharpmaker on it, just scratched up the sides of the blade. The convex runs through the entire blade, not just the edge, so you have to tilt the blade to catch the edge. I'd rather learn to do it right than ruin a nice blade. It's not too dull right now, still shaves, but will need touched up soon.

AFN has its own channels like AFN News, AFN Sports and others, but they are also a cable provider and carry AMC. They are showing "The Walking Dead" the same day as it shows back in the states. It actually comes on earlier since the time zone thing. But, I live out in town and they want $2000 to buy a dish to get it off base. You can't rent a dish. You can find them cheaper from people PCSing though.

Well never mind, I went to amctv.com and they said they are only going to stream the first episode. Oh well guess I will just have to suffer through it every sunday night! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I gotta get to writing this story about the XM-25 weapon system. It found it's way to Afghanistan yesterday. The Taliban's places to hide have just shrunk in numbers.
