My hawken is totally traditional, I don't even shoot bp substitutes in it.
I think the in-lines are a joke in the sense that using shotgun primers, sabot bullets and formed bp substitute, they are in fact the same as any other rifle.
We used to have a bp only season here, but I don't think it will come back if people want to use in-lines during the special season.
Rifle season is fine imo but not bp only season

Only way I'll part with it is when I die, my son will get it.

You can't even find a Hawken style rifle here anymore. It's all went to the in-line guns.

Your sacrafice was for a good cause and I commend you for doing it.
No sacrifice at all, my dad is one of those guys that gave each of his sons a better hunting knife then he ever bought for himself.
When we started hunting he got each of us the best rifle he could afford, not once in my life can I think of a time where he put himself before any of his family.
When my nephew started hunting my dad gave him his deer rifle which was one of his most prized possessions.
I regret losing the gun, not why I did it.
I would do the same thing tomorrow without question

Probably the same here, I haven't looked.

If it came to a SHTF scenario right now, I'd be happy with what's in my safe. If I had to grab a couple and run, it'd be my Glock 19, Ruger 10/22, Remington 700 and possibly my Remington 870.

But I'm on the end of a dead end road, and I've got a couple thousand acres of gamelands behind me, and a spring at the foot of the hill. I think I'd stay put.
Sounds like a nice place to live

At the NRA show, I showed pics of it to the LC Smith Collectors Society. They had never seen one like it either, and couldn't believe that I actually shot it from time to time

Wish I had my camera with me to put up the pics. I had 6 deer eating off a salt block in my yard the other morning, sat and watched them for about 30 min.

Went squirrel hunting Thursday morning, saw about 25 wild turkeys, 3 deer and about a dozen squirrels. All in less than an hour. Tried to get my son to shoot the squirrels, but he didn't want to shoot a shotgun. I knocked one out of a tree with it at about 45-50 yards, and my son couldn't believe it.

He didn't think a shotgun would reach that far

I was carrying my 10/22, but I don't like to shoot up into a tree with it. Carries too far if you miss.

I have three special guns;
I have a kessler bolt action 20 gauge which was my very first gun. My one uncle gave it to me when I was a kid.
I have a bolt action repeater 22 ranger that another uncle lent to me for a few years then gave it to me not long before he passed away.
I have a 9mm short FN that an uncle brought back from germany after ww2, it is now classified as a prohibited weapon, but it is grandfathered. It can't leave the house and maybe one day I will have it permanently deactivated so that it can be passed down
