Now there is a knife I would get several of. I love my Swamp Rat HRLM. That is a pratical size EDC.

Just a warning if you didn’t know, those handles are smaller and not quite as comfortable with big hands. They’re not as comfortable as the HRLM. They’re about the size of the DM handle. Useable, but not optimal.

After the Dogfather this is the one I have been waiting for the most. No larger choil needed for me. I like the extra length and can't get used to putting my finger in there anyway.

Welcome to the Yard. I don't believe we know when that will be, but I can only hope it will be when I have enough money to buy a 12 pack of them. I have picked up a couple of HRLM's from the Swamp to feed my medium sized fixed blade habit.

Ron,
I have been using that picture of the Howler as my desktop wallpaper off and on now for the better part of 6 months now. I live in Wisconsin where the law says you must DISPLAY your knife when carrying it in public!

That's right. Also there is a three inch limit! Sooooo you have to carry a three inch blade on your hip in a sheath on display for the Police to know that you are carrying a blade and that it may or may not be three inches in cutting edge. Odd don't you think? Walk into a restaurant,Post Office,Police Station, shopping mall, grocery store on my hip is a three inch blade EVERY DAY!

I NEVER leave the house without my right hip feeling the added weight of my daily choice.Only one problem...it is NOT a Scrap Yard Knife Company product.
Dan and Patti have made my whole family sold on the Yards products. I have NEVER had so much confidence in any blade in my life. Period.
I would stake my life on their blades every day. They are in my opinion the finest blade foe all around use and the best value at the same time.
Busse Knife Company makes some great steel. Jerry and his INFI are probably the best steel for knifes on the globe.
I can't afford one to find out.
His wise brother and his soul mate Patti have made Scrap Yard the blue collar knife to own. Bar none.
When the Scrap Yard owners do introduce the three inch Howler for the first time in my life I will buy multiples of the exact blade. I have two sons, 25 and 22 as well as my daughter who is the biggest knife nut after me.
My wife will opt out in order to save money. I now her like a book.
But I do see myself ordering 4 knives of the three inch variety just because it fills the EDC need to a level I have dreamed of for at least 10 years now.
It give me chills when I think about a SR-77 Drop Point Hunter by Dan and Patti.
It would be totally indestructible I'm sure. A blade that you could carry in almost ANY state in America without fear of losing it. Three inches is PERFECT!
As they say when it is wanted more than you could imagine....

[color:"orange"]BRING IT!!![/color]

Peace.

Some people just never learn.

I can EDC a Dogfather either hidden or in plain sight but usually just take my SS4 or now my Mutt or if I am feeling really lazy or a sheath knife would be to much the Fenix folder I just picked up. A small 3 inch sheath knife is a perfect EDC with a sheath with pocket clip but I like how dressy the Busse GW's are.

Choil.. make it Big.. or keep it Small!

just don't go in Between!! <- that is simply a waste; can't put finger in AND you lose blade edge length!
I guess I'll put my $.02 in here. For me, the HRLM choil is too small to use. I have large hands. The blade is short enough that I do not need to choke up on it though. It is my favorite EDC fixed blade, at least until my kydex comes in for the DM. Would it be unreasonable for SYKCO to offer two versions of the Howler? One could have no choil, for maximum cutting edge length, the other could have a large choil for precision skinning and other similar work. That should not be any more difficult to do than the recent offering of two slightly different recurves. Give the customers a choice. If one or the other proves to be a lot less popular, you know which one to make the next time.

I am ready!!!

WOOHOO got kydex on da way!!!

now I need da Howler!!

but I digress

I really want either a large choil or none at all...a choice would be sweet IMHO but I doubt that will happen

large choil you give up an inch of cutting area...hmm

I believe the reduced choli that swamp rat knives did to their howler from genII to the genIII (LM) killed the line and the character, intent and utility of the blade.

It didn't kill the line, it turned swampaholics into dremel users. You just need to enlargen it a bit and it works wonders.

I second your request, give a good choil or make it without. The choil on the pic looks like an unfinished serration. Maybe we should call it babychoil

I will take that puppy anyway Dan decides to produce it. It will be a joyous day for all when the SY Howler is announced.
