Mok, Frostbite, nip, what ever you want to call it is nothing to mess with. It can cause problems down the road many years later. My Dad was in Korea. He got "frostnip" way back in 1950-51 and now whenever the temps get down into the low 50's or high 40's a couple of his fingers and thumbs start cracking open.

yeah, I really need to look out for that. I don't think I've caused any damage as long as I heed it now and wear gloves/prevent further damage

I used to never wear gloves. But the last few (I'm 56) oh say last three winters counting this one, I have started. The cold just makes my fingers ache a little and grabbing that cold steering wheel I have decided I just don't need to deal with.

well, I don't wear gloves on and everyday basis, and I probably won't start now, however, feeding the furnace with frozen/snow covered logs (idiots here don't know how to use a tarp) well probably necessitate the use of gloves

When I was a kid I would tred outside in the snow wearing flip flops and shorts, sometimes even without a shirt on and throught out the trash. Drove my Mom nuts! I thought well heck, it's only for a minute, two at the most and I'll be back inside. I still do that partly now, but NOT IN FLIP FLOPS. Oh and the shorts are now sweat pants at least and a t-shirt MINIMUM.

heh, They'll have to tie me down to wear long pants on an everyday basis, for hiking/sledding/snowboarding, I'll wear 'em, but for taking care of the barn, feeding the furnace, walking between buildings, they can go bug some other guy

Nothing wrong with wearing shorts. I do do it all the time. But if it's REAL cold, LONG PANTS FOR ME!
