When they were looking for the little girl here a couple months ago, NG had the editor of the newspaper on a tv feed with her. She talked to him like a dog. Really left a bad taste in my mouth where she's concerned.

I would have dropped the mike and walked. I give him a lot of credit for not doing that. But then again, I'm a huge jerk when I need to be.

We need to NOT be afraid of the scumbags in the media. Not ALL of them are scumbags, but the Scumbags far out number the nice ones.

I don't play well with the media. I don't cut them ANY slack. told this one scumbag I WAS NOT going to call the firefighters on the radio or cell phone to ask them for an update for the tv station. Told them I was NOT going to put their lives in any more danger just to answer their stupid questions (I actually said that) and that if they wanted to know anything to go look for themselves

You know I've been on both sides of that telephone. I understand that the editor is riding their butts wanting an update to a story. BUT I also understand that my deputies come first, and I'm not giving out any info that may jepardize their safety, either now or later. I

f they want info here, they've all got the sheriff's phone number. He answers 24/7 and if they need to know he'll tell them.

And what I just LOVE is when they text me on my cell to get the inside scoop on what I just told them I couldn't tell them on the recorded line. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> If I couldn't tell them then, I can't (and won't) tell them now.

Just because I used to work there at the paper, and I play golf with the tv guys some, that doesn't mean that I'll jepardize my officers safety, not to mention my job, to give them info

I also understand the pressure to "get the story" but when it comes to putting someone's life possibly in danger just so they can get their "if it bleeds it leads" story, NUTS TO THEM!

Lots of pressure in that field to produce the story. I always heard about how much stress there is in dispatching, but it's nothing compared to being a reporter. Not only worried about today's story, but have to be planning for tomorrow, and the next day, and the next.

That being said, just because they're under pressure don't mean I'll be put under pressure by them.

Hey, the way I look at it, They don't sign MY paycheck!
