The Camillus Dominator is the fancy version of the Heat, but costs much more assuming you can find one.

well Horndog, my only AO folders are from Kershaw.....I have a Bump, zdp189 Leek, and rainbow Chive..... fun to play with but
I actually prefer manual for EDC folders (don't want a premature vasectomy from my Leek when carried IWB) ....
And that's the problem with assisted opening knives in a nutshell (so to speak ). They're inherently dangerous due to their design. The only way to safely carry an AOK in a pocket or IWB is to keep the safety engaged. But engaging the safety prevents the knife from being brought into play quickly if the need arises.
As you say, jaislandboy, AOKs are fun to play with. But if I were actually going to EDC a folder (which I don't do currently), it wouldn't be an AOK.
Well you guys are no fun! But you may be right. Guess I'll make that decision after I get the AOKs. Today, I put on my Sunday best Cabela's Spring ensemble. I'll be sporting my new HRLM EDC for the blessing of the shrimp boat fleet in Darien. Have a nice Sunday, all.

All this talk about this dang knife made me go and buy one. I've never been a big AO fan but I figured I have to try EDCing one.

There are Dominators on that auction site but a bit too rich for my toy budget.

Independent of the AO, the Heat still looks like a pretty good knife value. AUS-8 has always been good for me. I look forward to trying it out.

Worst case I just bought one of the last Camillus production knives. <tear>

We can always just flick them during zombie movies and slice pepperoni in a flash, if they don't work out for EDC!

Haha. Right on Vic. Not big on zombie movies but in the kitchen I'd feel like John Belushi in Samurai Delicatessen !

I carried one for awhile and felt the same way. I have since moved to Emerson's. Fast when you want, no worries about unintentional deployment. Spyderco has marketed the "wave" on a few knives if Emerson's are outside the budget.

Thanks Vic. I hope you and the girls have a fun day at the harbor. There is nothing in the world like fresh shrimp right off the boat!

I could see the immediate danger maybe if you were carrying a double edged blade. As almost every AO knife is, a premature opening in the pocket isn't going to do a whole lot. Perhaps if you were to bend over, or thrust your hand in your pocket unknowingly. Also, this premature opening is going to be all but impossible unless the blade has an index opening feature to respond to some freak pressure.

If I can make it dark, I can make it light. I am Crazy Dog.

Remember that a properly designed AO will actually use the torsion to hold the blade closed with pressure and only helps open it after a certain point is passed. How often have you had a folder start to open in your pocket?
