I must be doing something wrong, the ones I just saw looked like just strap with a couple hooks tied on the ends.

They are stretchy. You wrap it around the arm or whatever once and hook the strap and then pull the opposite direction around the arm until the second hook reaches the strap again and then just hook it. It can be applied with one hand.

Oh yeah, sure wouldn't want to use large fishhooks! Unless you cut the barbs off, smoothed down with a file and wrapped in rubber or electric tape, then fish hooks are perfect and strong
