I've got just about everyting (fak wise) I should need on a leisurely morning or afternoon short hike (1-4 miles) and have only used up the top and front flap pocket on the bag. I don't have anything on the outside, side or main compartments yet. About the only thing I need to add are a roll of med tape and some scissors. Then I will put my fire kit inside along with a back-up aa led (arc) with a lithium battery so I can forget about it unless I need it. That way I will still have PLENTY of room left over for "Munchies". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I usually just use a camelback and keep a good kit in it for day hikes. I got a screaming deal on last years Alpine Explorer last week. I have now retired my realtree one to just hunting. So maybe it will last me a few years longer.

No problem Sumo. I have the same one just a few years older. I like it. It is my big BOB. Doesn't stick out other than being a pack. You look like every other tourist trying to leave the area.

I use all my mil looking stuff for work. They have already figured out who I am with the uniform. While off I want to blend in.

Not sure about you guys, but IF it gets that way patty and I only have to go a Max of 10 Maybe 12 miles on the outside. But we have a "river" about 50-60 ft wide, if that much to cross, but it is only about 6 ft deep. And that is only IF the bridge goes out. And it's so jammed up in places with snags that we could probably find a way across without getting wet if we did have to walk it.

Yeah, that is the way I see it. Now don't get me wrong, my main pack is a large ACU one, but if it is bad enough for me to be out in a bad situation with it----there will be something else with me too, know what I mean.

I am glad we are having this conversation. One thing I need to put in all of my packs is a small tube of Icy hot. I banged up my knee last week and thats the one thing that has kept me going. Well that and motrin.
It would be handy on a long hike or a short one if you strained something.

If we had to leave it would be an extended hike. We would be leaving the area for a while. Populated area surrounded by wilderness on 3 sides and desert on the other.
