Ok so i had called one of the local guns shops 2day to see if they had any SU-16s in stock. I wanted to check one out and feel it before i make the dission to buy one or not.
Well they didnt have any in but the guy was nice and give me some advice not to buy it. He told me my best bet was to get an AR-15. He said i could buy the AR-15 Lower for like 200 and then buy a kit for like 500.
Ive been thinking about it and that sounds pretty cool. My only question is do u need to do any drilling or need tools to put it together?
Has any1 done this and what would u rate assembly for a novice?
Any info would help greatly.

I have assembled a few lowers and the first time I had some issues but it's really not that complicated. The hardest part was getting the front pivot pin detent in without shooting it across the room. You need some punches and some pliers. No drilling. This should help. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782Edit: Perfect post # for AR-15 topic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Like Vance said 2 pins and 10,000 rounds and you are good to go! If you need I can give you some pics. of mine to show ya, REALLY simple.Stay away from Oly. Go Colt or Armalite or Custom like SNS. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Good luck finding a receiver, since the Dems have taken office people have been buying up lowers as fast as they can release them. My Dad (has FFL)and a buddy have been trying to put together a couple of ar's but have had no luck getting lowers without having to go to the secondary market and then paying extra. He is currently on a waiting list with DPMS.
Not to scare you off, but be prepared to pay extra or wait.
BTW, a DPMS stripped lower can be had for $105 dealer cost.
I'd suggest picking up a Shotgun News if you have access to a decent bookstore, usually with the periodicals. You can find some pretty good deals on the uppers, I'd suggest Model 1 Sales. Got a good rep and nice selection.
Hope this helps.

Good luck. I have to agree, if I was going to have just one .223 semi-auto, it would be the AR-15, not the SU-16. Once you get a lower, you can build all kinds of ARs in various calibers and configurations.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

The above link is a great how-to for building, very easy... and checkout calguns.net for laws, mods, advice etc. A few dealers even sell built ar lowers already CA friendly, then just pick up a cheap upper and you are in business... check out http://www.lanworldinc.com/Lowers.htm built lower, find any unthreaded upper and you are in business, and can still use detachable mags.

Here is a guys site http://www.ameetecarms.com that I have purchase stripped uppers and lowers from. I don't think he does Kali safe stuff, but his parts are good to go. The owners name is Warren, he a pretty reasonable guy. He sells complete stuff too. AR's are fun and relatively easy to build. My advice would be to keep the rifle simple. Below you will see a pic of one of my AR configurations from the past where I lost my mind and hung everything tactical item I could off of it. Kind of defeated the purpose of a carbine which I knew but did it anyway. It was a cool theory I had though. ![[Linked Image from i88.photobucket.com]](http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k185/rteagard/L3BC2D2006-12-04200781.jpg)

Nothing to fancy.
