Black is usually boron carbide, around 1-2 microns. The green is chromium oxide and is typically between 0.3-0.5 microns.15,000 grit and 50,000 grit respectively. The green is overkill unless you want to shave your face. So, sandpaper (what grit?) for a really bad edge and what grit for a strop (or 2 grits?)

Thanks, It looks like I may have to give this one a shot. I will just get the black strop. I just need a good woking edge. If it shaves arm hair I'm happy. Fortunately she had started putting the pictures on CD's and she still has many of them that way and also on memory cards from the camera. careful, disk rot can destroy the integrity of data on CDs and dvds. Back those up too!!

I tried the lanky and didn't like it. I think I could sit around all day with a stone and strop but that particular gadget just never stuck with me.

lost quite a bit of files to CDRs crapping out on me. Flakes and bubbles and holding disks up to lights to see the flaws. Dealt with floppies and Zip disks going bad. All this time never hadahard drive go out until now. All that is left to believe in is servers and backups in 3 different places.
