Strops are really over played I'm their ability, the blade needs to be razor sharp and finely ground for a compounded strops to work correctly. If you use a strop on a blade that is not sharpened finely enough you end up rounding out the "teeth" at the edge, it will feel sharper but its actually duller. When using sandpaper I stop at 2k then use 6 Micron diamond compound followed by 3 Micron and 1 Micron. As a example, you would need to finish with 3k paper or a 10-12k waterstone before being able to effectively use a 1 Micron compound.

For a bad edge I start with 220 grit and usually follow like this, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, then I start with compounds. I can compromise edge types on V edges but for convex I go all out, I feel the performance is better that way with the type of edge geometry.

I wouldn't wait too long ToboTech. The WarDog is definitely one to grab of you can. I don't expect you will see many or want to pay the price once they come down. No reason to risk it and Dan announced that they are prepare to hold off the charges for a while of needed. if I thought I would have the funds anytime soon I would order and contact Renee now.

I remember using sharpening stones in boy scouts. Even then I think I only dulled the knives.

I do not possess the skill to sharpen.... yet.

Never tried paper mouse method or belt sander or paper wheels or strop. Heck, never tried to sharpen a convex edge period.

You MIGHT save some money by going direct order from the site. Yes you will pay shipping, but shouldn't be charged tax whereas you probably will at blade. Just my guess though. You might check with Renee to find out for sure. I don't need or want a RAZOR edge on my knives. I use a courser edge. I start on a course diamond stone an mostly always end up with a finish whetting on a course ceramic hone although I do at times finish up a few licks on a fine diamond. I just want to maintain the convex edge so what grit do you think I should get, the green?

I like a coarser edge too- usually.
makes up for my lack of and distaste for serrated edges

Nope, I'm at work and I was talking about our personal pictures etc. Just had some work to do.

coolest edge job I have is a large sebenza with the tip convexed moving into a hollow ground toward the grip.
