I have thought about picking up an air rifle just to tag praire dogs. They have been taking over the field here this year.

yup, I want one beast of an air rifle. i thought I had one bu didn't really pay much attention at the time. had a good day on the job some years back so decided to pay $100 for an air rifle. I really didn't know jack about them and the only place I could think to go at the time was walmart. bought something for $100. I stuck in a closet and didnt see again for a few years. Broke it out to knock off a squirrel at and forgot it in my folks garage. weather didn't treat it so nice and sites got beat up somehow.

this time around I would like to a nicer rifle and treat I right. something that will last me as long as any other firearm.

out to about 30 yards or so I think a Pellet rifle would be good. They've got .22 cal ones now that are almost up to 1000fps!

I have been impressed by the air rifles they have been putting out lately. Some pretty impressive FPS. More than enough to take rabbit sized game at 30-40 yards.

I did a good bit of research on around the time I made the .22lr or less thread. technology has come a long way since the 760 and 880 I had as a kid. I'm eyeballing the Benjiman Trail NPXL in .22. there's a YouTube vid of a guy shooting tree branches but I forget the distance. nice way to prune big trees though.

I have had mine since 1991 and it will really shoot (if I do my part). At a distance you can't tell it apart from a centerfire deer rifle caliber long arm.
