We are going the opposite way. Now if you want a licence for a gun youŽll have to make a psychological test (hundreds of questions), youŽll have to have a paper from a doctor that you are not crazy (if you want a handgun), youŽll have to have a reason for what you want to buy a gun (they donŽt always understand for what you need another o/u shotgun for example), then youŽll have to have papers from classified firearms instructor that you are active shooter (when you have a licence and you want to keep it) or if you are a hunter a paper from an hunters assosiation....

AND ALL THIS IS NOT MAKING FINLAND ANY MORE SAFE!
Here we have three classes of firearms
Non-restricted = most rifles and shotguns
Restricted = handguns and some rifles such as AR 15
Prohibited = People that owned a firearm before it became prohibited can keep it or buy sell to someone else with the same prohib status. When they die the firearm is destroyed.
To own a non-restricted firearm you must first take a course, after passing the course you can apply for you PAL. This involves background checks, reference checks and an interview with the local Firearms Officer.

We have safe storage laws, max 10 round magazine for pistols, max 5 rounds for rifles other than some surplus guns like the lee enfield and m1 garand.

To get your restricted permit you first must have a PAL (you can get both at once) you then have to take a restricted firearms course. You must also be a member of a gun range.
Each time you buy a restricted firearm, you pay for the firearm, then make application to the firearms officer who can reject it. If he accepts it you are then granted a permit which allows you to take the firearm home. You then need a separate permit to take the firearm back and forth to the range.
A restricted firearm can only be used at a range.

To possess more than 10 firearms in total, you have to be classified as a collector.

You can loose your firearms by a simple call to the police by a neighbour.
If you are a male your wife/girlfriend is interviewed to make sure they know you are applying for a permit and that they agree to you getting the permit.

In Canada you cannot own a firearm for personal protection from crime, if you put that down on your application it will be turned down

Doing pretty good at the moment. Storms passed through earlier, now it's just muggy as all get out outside. But call-wise, it's been a fairly quiet night.

The War Dog landed here today. I'm really liking the knife, but haven't gotten to try it out yet on anything but paper and my arm hairs. Hope to put it through it's paces this week. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

Oh Man that stinks Yote! I don't know about Canada, but here in the U.S. there would ALWAYS be guns in the hands of the citizens, yes even though it would be against the law. WE DID rebel over 200 years ago you know and I guess still are rebelling against something or other all the time.

It's really a nice blade Todd, and I know you're gonna like it.

I didn't think it was very sharp when I took it out of the box, but when I ran it up my arm the hairs flew. I spent about an hour stropping it on the back of a notepad, and it'll really take the hairs off now.

I do see what you meant about the choil though, it really isn't useable for me either.

Who sharpened it? There seems to have been a problem with one sharpener.

Take a tip from Hooker and ROUND YOUR BUTT! hehe. And I took a dremel to the choil on mine and made it about 1/8 inch longer. I'm gonna open it up another 1/16 and I think it will be just fine for my fat fingers.

He (the sharpener) just needs some instruction on doing a convex. Dan said that this is the first (I think) for the yard and they were having Busse Combat crews teach the process to them.
