The gear special issue of G&A had one of the coolest fals I have ever seen. It was
about 15 inches long total and had a vertical foregrip with desert multicam.
It was a great article about the history of the FAL with a focus on it's revival.

The DSA shorty's are sweet. My dad and I have some DSA's recievers but no complete DSA's mainly because we can build a similar rifle for much less.

I really like FAL's. My dad is a major collector and fan of them. The training I have done with them has been impressive. Most of my FAL's do 2-2.5MOA which is fine by me given the reliability of the rifle.

I went out to an rifle workshop a while back at Ben Avery shooting facility my local 1600 acre range , and knocked down steel RAM's at 547 yards with with iron sites using one of my FAL's and an M1 Garand. Most of the guys with accurized this and that lined up to shoot my FAL after they noticed all the steel RAM were down. A couple of of them asked me what that old wood rilfe was I shooting (the Garand). I smiled and let them shoot it.

*Sigh* I would love a surplus Garand. One of these days.

Had a chance at one last Fall, and lost it because I hesitated. Patton said the M1 Garand was the greatest battle implement ever devised. Never fired one. Fired the M14.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I have a Garand. It's Korean era so it doesn't quite have the same collectors appeal that a WWII one would but I had to have one. They are a blast to shoot.

Great pics! I really like the 870. I need to get a sling and a pistol grip buttstock for mine.

Nice pic of the toys. If you can keep some of the federal tactical buck. It is had to get and the price has gone way up. The Hornaday Tap buck is also awesome but has more kick. I believe it is around 1325fps. I bought and vaccumed sealed 500 rounds of the federal tactical buck and also the Tap.

I love my country but fear my government.

That's a good looking FAL.

I have a shorty similar to that. Mine isn't coated, just parkerized, it has Tapco furniture, a Tapco stripper clip top cover and an inch style rear sight (because it groups too low with a metric sight).

For any one buying a FAL, make sure you get a good upper receiver. DSA is good, Imbel is good, if it's anything else, do some research.

So far I have a few Imbel, an FMAP (Argentina), an SBL (Israeli), and a few DSA. They are all fine examples of U.S. made or Imported Metric FAL's. I would love to get an actual FN, but CA considers an "FN" FAL an assault weapon. I think that's all of the countries that imported a Metric FAL receiver to the U.S.

One of these days I have to move to a free state.

I like the Garand very much. It's accurate and pretty reliable. The 30-06 cartridge is a classic and more than enough to be effective, especially for WWII where it was fighting against armies with bolt action rifles.

I have never fired an M-1A (semi auto M-14), but the design is similar to the Garand. Compared to the FAL, the M-1A must certainly be harder to clean, less reliable and more expensive (unless you live in Canada and can buy a Norinco, but I don't so I won't mention it).

Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

[quote]I finally got around to finishing up my FAL this morning. Took it out and test fired it with the new 16" cut barrel. It worked quite well. I had the reciever cut for a para stock in the event I get a wild hair. Imbel reciever, Penguin furniture Duracoated black. It's hanging out with my Mutt.

Also took the 870 out to test fire some new Buckshot my LE friend gave me. It's Federal Premium Law Enforcement 00 Buck with the "flitecontrol" wad. This stuff patterns tighter than any buckshot I have ever used. It's great stuff with a muzzle velocity of 1145 fps. If you get a chance to pick some of this ammo up, do it.

Just wondering how long did it take u to complete your FAL?

I'm not the one you asked but if you have the tools (about $200 for a very good set), you can assemble a FAL in a few hours. If you want to get fancy and have it coated, it will take longer. If you have to refinish old wood furniture, it might take weeks.

Oddball is correct, it takes a few hours to put one together with the proper tools. This one took about 2 hours to assemble and then as much time to prep and spray. If the finish on the rest of the kit would have been nicer, I would have left it alone. My dad jsut got some park tanks and heating elements so we can start parkerizing soon. I may end up parkerizing all my FAL's after we get this going.
