Thats pretty good. I tried throwing my Dog Father at a stump once also and it bounced back at me so I have not done it since.

I was 99% on the mall ninja test also?!?!

Good solid hits, how did the knife hold up? Any handle damage or loosening.. I know it's INFI and assembled with 10,000 lbs of pressure (yada yada) but I figure that was some real world usin'!

No damage at all as far as I can tell. Other than the coating at the tip. The micarta shows no sign of loosening or chipping. It did great.

(Now watch it fall apart the next time I pick it up to cut cake. )

That is great. How far away were you throwing? What an amazing group!

Thanks for sharing
Dan

Thanks Dan. I was throwing from 15 feet and 4 inches. I know I need to varry my distance more. But it started out as a cure for cabin fevor. I guess I'll just have to practice more.

Music: My neighbors were having a baby shower or something so they had the DJ going all night with the "oom pa pa" music. Great stuff.

15 feet is great. It also kills me that you pry your knife to one side to get it out...proof in how deep it went.

Maybe it's time to try it with the Mutt.

Guys, if your having bounce backs, set up a prop like Dark norseman there. The dogfather and scrapper 6 will go through that plywood in nothing flat, but it's a good starting medium to throw at. The trick is, to set something up like in the picture. The plywood will bend and absorb a lot of the impact if the knife hits flat. We used plywood set ups like this when i was a kid starting out throwing knives and it saved a lot of toes I'm sure. Only when we moved "up" to large logs did we start having serious bouce-backs.

Nursing school taught me...patience.

I just set up my Ranger RD7 to throw and tried a little with it - it does pretty well! I did notice that the micarta grips were getting knocked around a little - so I just took them off and cord wrapped it! I also called Justin to make sure that he didn't care if I chucked his knives at stuff regarding his warranty, and of course, he said to go for it! So now I need to get some technique down!

diceman: that rd-7 looks perfect for throwing. And Justin's knives are super tough. Let us know how it goes. Take pics/vids if possible.

DN - how many rotations to you usually get from the distances in the vids? Do you grip near the pommel? Those are my two main questions at this point. I can take some pics sometime I'm sure. I have to throw in the garage due to the ultra PC community that I live in. I've got about an 18-20" crossection of white pine that I'm throwing in to. The old garage has a wooden floor too, which is nice!! Did you just learn via trial and error, or is there a thread that I should read, or any tips? Thanks bro! -Dan

I usually heft it in my hand a bit and get a feel for the balance before throwing. That usually helps. You improve with practice. I haven’t thrown in a while, but I used to use my knives below, along with a forged hawk and a CS throwing shovel. That CS torpedo in the pic below is pretty bad a$$. It weighs like a pound. You could throw it at a rabbit or something, and even if the point didn’t hit it’d take ‘em out just from the mass of it.
