I've got a good California story.
I'm a Texan through and through...born and raised. Well, upon graduating with my BS....Applied Materials wanted me to move to Santa Clara and work at the headquarters. I did so....got me a little apartment in Campbell, CA. A whole 600 sq ft for $1300/mo and no AC.
I was part of a rotation program for new college grads for 6 months...then you interview for actual jobs and get placed. Well, I interviewed and had a few folks vying for me. However, on the side, I had called my boss back in Austin that I had interned with and told him to get me the hell back to Texas. Next thing I knew I was on a curb waiting for the taxi to get me to the airport....I'll never forget landing back in Texas.
I still "visit" California...but don't plan on moving back there.

I was talking to my wife yesterday (she's hispanic) and I realized I've never crossed the Texas / Mexico border...and I've lived here for forever. Odd. Granted, now I have no interest in crossing it...would rather fly into a central region away from some of the violence.
