Yeah, in the above pic, I've now used the RD-9, the RTAK II, and the CG FBM.

RTAK II is a pretty slender blade with a sweet spot a little further back than, say, a typical Busse or SR. Still a decent chopper for the money, I think, but I haven't really put mine through the paces yet. Seemed to hold an edge well enough after 10 to 15 minutes of chopping, so I think the heat treat is good.

The RD-9 above had some probs with coating chipping off. Justin offered a free recoat, but I decided to try a cold blue with some of Brownell's Oxpho Blue. Supposed to be good stuff and should be in this week. Have already stripped the RD-9 and have it ready to go. I'll post a pic in this thread once I get it done.

I see no Beckers in your list. You need to try a Brute or a Machax or a Combat Bowie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The Full Flat Grind RD9 had a coating problem so I stripped it....and I also broke about 3/4 of an inch off the tip while giving it some exercise, Justin Offered to regrind it....but I don't like sending my knives off and just did it myself. The old hollow ground RD9's coating is holding up like a champ and it is quite a bit thicker than the new one. I have been eyeing a BK9HH model and as soon as I see one...it will be added to the list. I wanted to add a HI Bolo in the BF exchange, but HI's warranty only applies to the original owner!? So now I can save my money for something else...like a DOG FATHER!

Apparently not as bad as Gravelface. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Gravelface, what are your impressions on the Basic 9? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one next time I see a reasonable deal.

Somebody needs to talk me into whacking the one on top...

Or not. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The Basic 9 is a Gem...usually resonably Priced and it chops like a beast....I am not a fan of the asymmetrical edge in appearance, but it sure is fun to abuse, sharpens easily. Watch out...if I see one resonable...I just might get it also!

Cheaper than a FBM at least, could be worse! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Hi, my name is Tony, and i'm an aspiring Chopper Aholic.
I don't have any choppers yet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

But last week as I was walking past my Christmas tree I heard it snickering at my small knives.. so my SS4 & HRLM ate the tree..

I look forward to joining BCAA soon.
