My wife uses worms, but I refuse to use cheater bait. Nightcrawlers are ok in a pond, but for river fishing I have to use something that I can keep moving.

I caught a 4 lb smallmouth last summer in the Toe River using a small bass plug in less than 3 feet of water. Just have to think out of the box sometimes.

I was just thinking about that NUT JOB DA in New York and found this on Wikipedia.

Yeah depends on what you're after. Cat, worms. Crappie, jigs. Bass, spinners of some kind. Worms or spinners will work for blue gill or perch around here sometimes, but mostly worms for them as well.

I bet I've got 500 different bass lures in my tackle boxes, not counting plastic worms. Dad used to be a tournament fisherman, his tackle boxes got handed down to me when he quit.

I don't have anything against worms except when I'm trout fishing. I'm kind of a purist when it comes to that.

Biggest tackle box I ever had was about 15 inches long, maybe about 8 wide and tall. Had MAYBE three trays when you opened it up and I usually didn't have them all full of lures. I also carried sunglasses and hemostats in there to get hooks out.

I've got one box just for spinner baits, probably got 40-50 in it alone. Biggest tackle box has four trays on each side plus the bottom is the size of 4 regular shoeboxes.

I have seen some big tackle boxes before but never had a need for anything anywhere near that size.

Like I said, he was a tournament fisherman back in the 70's. He could have been as big as Bill Dance or Roland Martin if only he'd had some sponsors. He could catch fish when nobody else could. He won some big regional tournaments too, not just local stuff. BUT he had a family to support and couldn't just drop his job to try to go fish for a living.

I'm pretty good at finding fish, but not like Dad was.

About all I did was find a body of water and go for it.

He kept stacks of notebooks telling weather conditions, water conditions, what he caught and where, etc. It was like a science to him. I wish he was still able to go, but he's got congestive heart failure and just can't get around like he used to.
