My HEST.
Normally I do not carry it here because I know it is against the law. But, since I was driving from base to base where I covered field training, I figured I wouldn't really step foot on "German" territory.
I got pulled over about 3 minutes from base because the Polizei thought I was missing a updated sticker on my plates. I was in a government vehicle and didn't need the stickers. The only reason there are old stickers there are to make the vehicle not look so foreign. Well, he realized his mistake and let me go.
As I opened the door to get in, he asked to see my pocket knife. He was nice enough to give me a stupid piece of paper I can't even read in exchange for my knife.

GREAT <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />, any chance you can get it back? Maybe play the "in the line of duty card"?

The cop said he would word his report in my favor since I was so "friendly and cooperative." He also said he would include that I use it for work when in the field and I was pulled over outside training grounds. I also explained the knife was 1 of 250 made and I can not replace it. Back home, those facts alone would have saved my knife from being taken in the first place. But, this is Germany and they follow the rules. I have seen Germans waiting for the pedestrian crossing light to turn green at 2 a.m. on a back alley without a car in sight.
I am not mad at the cop. This is their country and I respect the rules, even though I apparently broke one. I am mad I didn't take it out of my pocket when I got pulled over and leave it in the car.

Is it that you can't carry a one hand opening blade, or a blade over a certain length or ANY blade THEY don't think you should have like the sociaist kuntry of Great Britan (No offense to the CITIZENS, just the Government).

Yes. The Germans would stop here. It was taken because it is a one-handed opener. The piece of paper, which I actually can read, has the confiscated item listed as einhandmesser, or one handed knife.

Yes He was "enforcing the law", and yes he could have just let you go, officers choice (but maybe not allowed there). I for one thank you for not "Blameing" the cop, it is something small to us, but his job, literally, could have depended upon what he did. Oh Just for the record, I wouldn't have liked it either. I lost a blade that was behind the seat of my pickup, under a web belt with canteen, under a jack, under a blanket. The SKYCOPS took it and it took me about 2 months to get it back, and I never would except our squadron exec was a hunter as well.

All hope is not lost. My coworker, luckly, is shacked up with a detective in the Polizei. I had dinner with them last night and she is going to try and get it back for me. She made me promise to never carry it outside my home again. I promised
