We have a 50 mile canoe trip in late June. I may not make that one.. Not much vacation time left at work, and what I have I will spend with them at summer camp for a week. But, one thing that makes our troop so successful, is the fact that I have a bunch of great Assistants (mostly men) that all share the same love for the outdoors as I. We are never short on leadership for the outdoors.

Someday I would like to give back. If you ever can, do it. The program needs strong male leadership. Men of nature, the outdoors. Hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers, shooters of guns and archery. If you can only give a little, its more than they had before you start.

That sounds like a great community you have! We have about 65 boys. Sometimes more, sometimes a little less. The troop was founded by an ex F4 jockey, and the next Scoutmaster was also a fighter pilot. I took over as Scoutmaster about 4 years ago. I am not ex military, but I have hunted, fished, shot, camped all my life. My profession is Land Surveying, so I have spent more time in the woods/swamps than I like to think about. We are fortunate to have plenty of military families, and have the training experience of these men to help in out troop. And the moms are all into their own contributions as well. Yep... great bunch of people. Without all of them, we would not have a unit.
