I know but when the way media portrays wild animals i would think it's hard to maintain yourself agent you realize you are in a starring contest with a bear. what I know would say stand still but at some point has to decide its working...

actually if you are still alive then it's probably working. anything else is just freaking out...

wish I could find that vid..

like anything else, you really don't know what you would do until it happens.
When it looked like the lynx was going to charge me from 20 to 25 yards away, the rifle was up before i knew it, and i remember thinking don't make me kill you

I meant to ask if he was following you or following the trail? so I'm guessing he wised up...

i remember one time i was deer hunting
i walked up a game trail, then came to this nice spot where i decided to sit for a while.
about 5 minutes later i see this black bear walking up the same trail, i don't think he is following me, just using the same trail.
he keeps coming and then i figure out it has no idea that i am there.
when it gets about 30 to 40 yards away i cycle the action on my rifle, with that metallic sound the bear almost turned itself inside out as it ran back down that trail

i was walking down a cut line, when i got to an intersection, when i looked up the trail he was sitting looking into a tree.
He turned his head to look at me, i put my binoculars on him as i wasn't sure if he was a bobcat or lynx.
We stare at each other for a few seconds, then just as i decide to go for my camera, he spins around and gets into that position cats do when they are ready to attack.
I throw my gun up, then in a low gruff voice i said get out of here. He didn't move, he just kept staring at me, so after a few seconds I made myself look as big as possible, then started walking back up the trail i had come down.
When i was up about 75 yards the cat came running around the corner and stopped in the middle of the trail.
It then stayed in the middle of the trail where i could see it and it followed me step for step for about 250 yards. I crested a hill and lost sight of it, and then when i could see the back trail again it was gone.
I think it just wanted to make sure i knew he was boss.
Never did see him again on the trip

they say lynx rarely get over 40lbs so i think it looked bigger than the dog because of its thick fur and possibly its rangy build
it didn't show any fear of me at all

sounds like you have had a few similar experiences. As much as I can appreciate nature I'm fine with not experiencing that part. figure I should be aware of it anyways....

when you said lynx I was thinking large mean cat. I'm sure one can rip mento shreads but I wouldn't expect one to follow after me. you never what's going through an aggressive animals head though. why id rather have a firearm if I was every any place I could potentially be attacked. or at least some type mace or pepper spray x 2...
