... Have you posted pics of Whoop? I can't recall...
Beautiful steel! Have you had a chance to use any of the Scizzy's?...
I haven't taken any or her since I got my digital camera, and the old rolls of film got lost before they ever got developed. Whoop is a spaniel mix who was found by a friend and his wife; she was running feral with a pack of dogs on a farm, and as a year or two old at the time. Whoop was pregnant, malnourished, and had pneumonia when they found her. She lost the litter due to her poor physical condition -- after they got her healed up, they asked if I wanted to adopt her. Whoop was very skittish; she wold lay a trail of pee whenever she got startled -- the vet told me that's fairly common in spaniels and breeds that are derived from them, like cockapoos, and called it submissive wetting.
Eventually, she got comfortable with the idea that she had a home, and settled in. No matter how bad the day is, she's always happy to see me, and lifts my spirits. She used to jump around and try to bend her body so that both her head and wagging tail would be pointed in my direction -- I called it the "Whoopie Dance". Mom has sometimes remarked that Whoop and I have been great for one another.
I've had Whoop for about 15 years, so she's at least 16, and has unfortunately, gotten pretty frail. Sometimes I wish I'd taken digital pictures of her when she was younger; I should probably take some of her now anyway, but I tend to get maudlin when considering that my remaining time with Whoop may be short, and I'm not sure that having pictures when she's gone would be more of a comfort than a painful reminder of loss.
That was probably way too much information, and a far heavier response than you expected by asking about a picture, but I did say that I get maudlin.
To your second question, I really almost never use any of my knives -- I unwrap them, look at them a few minutes, then wrap them back up and store them. I occasionally pull one out to post a picture or two, but for me it's been a quest to acquire rather than to use. A lot of people consider that attitude to be somewhere between strange and insane, but owning them is good enough for me.
... Did you wrap the Scrap Yards' Handles like that or did they come like that?? Am I the only one that doesn't have a Scrapizasi.
I don't really think that Scrapizasis would be considered common -- They were only available at Blade and I think, great as they are, many people hoped they'd come in at a lower price-point. Unfortunately for Dan, folks are looking for, even expecting, Bussekin quality and warranties at Wal-Mart prices, so the dogs can be a hard lot to please.
The handle wraps are as they come from Scrap Yard -- they have a bit of a tacky resin feel to them, and provide a very secure grip. I can understand some grumbling about the handle not having the standard lifetime warranty, but they look like 550-cord wrapped around a core, that's in turn wrapped by a resin impregnated strip -- they're durable, but may wear enough to need a re-wrap under hard long-term use. Personally, I'm quite happy with them -- I like that the design has a cross guard.
