Ok dogs
I thought I would share this. Last week I spent 3 days with my counterparts in our US sister companies.
There were six of us in total and instead of renting hotel rooms, we decided to rent a house (it was cheaper and more importantly more fun)
Thursday morning the two ladies in our group made biscuits and gravy. I never had it before and all I can say is "it is great"
I am sure my arteries cringed, but it was worth it

You're kidding, right? You never had biscuits an gravy? So what do you eat with the back bacon you cook on the old Coleman while drinking Moosehead?

How old are you, and how am I supposed to visit Canada if you guys don't have biscuits and gravy. Talk about deprived. Now you need to try S.O.S. IIRC, this is Skunks favorite and right up there with me--hamburger meat in gravy over the top of some toasted slice bread.

I am 45, the biscuit part was nothing new.
I make baking powder biscuits when hunting or camping, but never had that type of gravy with biscuits before.
I've had a similar gravy on pasta before

We have bacon and mushrooms on toast covered in gravy.

Anyone have a good recipe for biscuits and gravy?

I'm sure if you did a search for "biscuits and sausage gravy" on the internet you'd end up with more delicious recipes than you'd know what to do with. It's all about the bacon grease!

My daughter in the Air Force tells me that they no longer serve SOS, which is not the same as biscuits and gravy, but close. There were two kinds of SOS: The Navy version, which is chipped beef on toast. I won't say here what the Navy called it. I grew up eating it. Mom had to learn how to make it to US Navy specs. She used the dried salty beef that comes in little jars for the meat. She made a white gravy for it. One official ingredient you would never suspect is a little nutmeg.

The Army and Air Force version used ground beef. I liked them both. Sad to see such a fine tradition leaving the AF.

Edit: After a little research I found that both types of SOS were served in both the Army and the Navy. Sometimes it was actually served on biscuits. I worked as a civilian assistant mess cook for the Navy before joining the AF, and we only used the chipped beef at that base.

I used to love SOS when eating in the army mess halls. They used to call it chipped beaf. I still love biscuits and gravy to this day and love it on my hashbrowns and potatoes too...great stuff
