Greetings one and all,
I am new to the forum and I thought I would introduce myself by sharing some observations regarding the similarity of the Srapizashi to the ninja-to, the sword of the Ninja.
Unlike the Samurai’s katana, the Ninja-to was a utilitarian tool. The samurai revered their katanas, often going so far as to name them and treated them with the utmost respect. When clashing with another sword, it was necessary to use the softer back edge of the sword, because the harder cutting edge would certainly chip.
The ninja-to was a different animal all together. Like the ninja it was a jack-of-all-trades. It was generally shorter, with a longer handle and a straighter blade. It was used as a sword, prybar, bushwacker, and bludgeon. A Samurai would never think to dishonor his sword in such a way. But the Ninja’s sword was a reflection of his attitude: get the job done at any cost.
The Scrapizashi is perhaps the quintessential modern ninja-to. It is rough, tough, and can eat up all the abuse you could care to lay on it. It is stealthy, inexpensive, and effective.
As a student of Ninjutsu for many years, (I had to leave my dojo when I went to University), I have always kept my eye out for the perfect sword. I think this just might be it! I am eagerly anticipating its arrival!
It’s a pleasure to join this most excellent online community.
Cheers, Dave

Welcome to the Yard, Dave. Yes, after seeing the strength of the Scrapizashi, I'd have to agree. It may just be the perfect sword. It's amazing what Busse does with jack hammer bit steel.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

3D,
Welcome!
Thank you for this quote:
"...it was a jack-of-all-trades. It was generally shorter, with a longer handle and a straighter blade. It was used as a sword, prybar, bushwacker, and bludgeon."
THANK YOU!
There has been a bit of chatter about not finding a use for the scizzy. But, I have an AK (kind of a busse version of the scizzy), and I use it for a lot of stuff. It is really usefull.

I don't know much about swords. I sharpened a friend's Katana once. It was not one of the expensive ones. It broke when he tried to chop a limb with it. I have chopped down trees with my Waki with no damage at all. And the Scapizashi is as tough or touger than the Waki. It is more than just a weapon.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. An original or authentic replica katana probably would not break if used to chop tree limbs. They should be pretty tough when it comes to cutting organic material. The Samurai would test their swords on the bodies of condemned criminals, and the results were often engraved into the tang (this is a three-head sword, etc.). The one you referenced Horn Dog was probably a china cheapie. However an original would not have anywhere close to the toughness of a Bussekin sword. That is what really sets them apart, that and the price to value ratio can't be beat.
I have heard of similar performance from a Howard Clark L6 katana, which are reportedly pretty much indestructible as well. However you will pay several thousand for the sword, several more for polishing, and wait three years for one. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to go traipsing through the woods hacking vegetation with my five thousand dollar sword. This is what makes the Scrapizashi so great.

I moved here about a year ago once I finished architecture school in Colorado. I live at the beach and work for an architect designing homes. I also do a lot of surfing and yoga.
