Welcome to the yard, you'll like it here. The skizzy is a great short sword, well balanced and tough as jackhammer head bits <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> As for a modern ninja-to, I'm not sure there is any other kind, but the skizzy is a great interpretation for sure <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Welcome to the Yard, DDD. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Very inciteful info, I've learned a little on the Ninja way through my involvement in the SCA, and have always admired their discipline. My kids and I have had an ongoing argument about the whole Pirates verses Ninja thing, and although the Pirates might have been more fun... the Ninja were the special forces of their time, and would have had the appropriate tools for the trade, I think the Scizzy would have been admired by them! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Well, now that this new information has surfaced... I find myself having to get a Scizzy more and more...
Ninjas rock, pirates suck!
Sure, they have wenches, but can they hang upside down from the cieling motionless and completely silent for hours at a time? Can they heal fatal wounds with thier minds and not bleed??? didn't think so!

Greetings one and all,
I am new to the forum and I thought I would introduce myself by sharing some observations regarding the similarity of the Srapizashi to the ninja-to, the sword of the Ninja.
Unlike the Samurai’s katana, the Ninja-to was a utilitarian tool. The samurai revered their katanas, often going so far as to name them and treated them with the utmost respect. When clashing with another sword, it was necessary to use the softer back edge of the sword, because the harder cutting edge would certainly chip.
The ninja-to was a different animal all together. Like the ninja it was a jack-of-all-trades. It was generally shorter, with a longer handle and a straighter blade. It was used as a sword, prybar, bushwacker, and bludgeon. A Samurai would never think to dishonor his sword in such a way. But the Ninja’s sword was a reflection of his attitude: get the job done at any cost.
The Scrapizashi is perhaps the quintessential modern ninja-to. It is rough, tough, and can eat up all the abuse you could care to lay on it. It is stealthy, inexpensive, and effective.
As a student of Ninjutsu for many years, (I had to leave my dojo when I went to University), I have always kept my eye out for the perfect sword. I think this just might be it! I am eagerly anticipating its arrival!

Thanks again everyone for the welcome. Dan, I studied Ninjutsu for five years with the Kurai Kotori Ryu in Denver, Colorado. It is a multi-disciplinary dojo and they practice taijutsu (a synthesis of japanese unarmed styles), kenjutsu (swordfighting) as well as many other traditional weapons. These days I am mostly practicing taiji and a little gung fu with my cousin who is an instructor here in Costa Rica.
I am really looking forward to using the Scizzy. So cool that you came out with a Scrap Yard Sword. I will be visiting Colorado for Thanksgiving and will bring the Scizzy back to Costa Rica with me. It will be cool to have something that I can really use without worrying about damaging it.
Any chance of a full-length Busse-kin katana in the future? Just thinking about it is getting me excited.
Ninjas vs. Pirates: both are cool for different reasons, but in a fight I gotta represent and go with ninjas. Pirates might have an advantage on the water since the Japanese never leave their island, but they are likely to be in a weakened state from scurvy and guzzling rum. I believe the ninjas fighting skill and discipline would prevail in the long run.
