Opps - I also see a little thumb ramp on the SOD.

Okay, now I'm seeing more differences...is the SOD a different grind vs the CT's saber? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" />

So at least my noob questions above moved me a little closer to JYD status!

Guys, just wondering...do you think the scrapizashi will perform well as an outdoor survival knife? the weight and length are reasonable when you compare it to machetes or huge choppers. actually, it appears that this is a machetes that is tough enough to chop down trees and baton through wood. it looks like it might work well for trail blazing? in the Pacific Northwest there is a lot of overgrown trail and i have had to work my way through a lot of Devils club, wild black berries, stinging nettles, and lots of other tree branches and underbrush.

i just imagine you would have some powerful synergy in an outdoor/survival situation when you combine the scrapizashi with a smaller fixed blade.

Welcome to the Yard. Where in the PacNW are you we've got a few of us here.

I think the Scizzy could work as an outdoor brush clearing blade although it is a little bigger than I prefer. Plus you may get looks for carrying a sword I like the Busse B11 which looks more like a machete.

That being said the Scizzy will go with me next time I am in the woods.

I passed on the Scrapizashi, because I couldn't decide what I'd use it for. In my AO, I value the ability to make shelter and fire above busting brush / trail blazing so I like something in the Dogfather range (10") for a primary survival knife. I also carry a 5" for "general use" (in my case one of the following: SY Urban Mutt; SR RMD; SY Scrapper 5CG).

This isn't a knock against the Dog Sword - I just couldn't figure out its "niche" so instead of buying one I'm saving for two or three of the next release <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I'm in Northwest Washington, currently right now I'm in Skagit County.

i love my RMD and i take on little day hikes, even if im not planning to build a fire or set up camp. however,if im on a crowded trail, then i will just have a pocket knife. i think if i was walking around with a sword i would get some looks.

i also have the SY Regulator Bowie i use for a bigger camp knife and it seems to perform well. but, i wouldnt mind owning and even bigger blade....

Burdan - you can NEVER have too many blades!

I use my Mil Reg for a camp knife, and its performed very well in that role. My only complaint is blade length (too short).

Have you looked at the Busse B11 or SY Dogfather?
