I think what Dan has done with the option for the Scrapivore is awesome, what other makers offer you the choice of the same knife but with a different RC hardness...I can't think of any. I also think a similar option would be great on all knives with blades up to say 5". Maybe an option of a full flat grind at a higher RC and a saber grind at a slightly lower one.
Anyway I got to thinking,if there was an option on the releases of a Combat Grade knife of having it without the Crinklecoat, how many would opt for that ? This knife would still be the same price, fit and finish as a standard CG though. It would still show any bumps, scratches etc so would win no beauty contests and there would be no discount cos ya opted outta the crinkle coat.
What do ya think ?

Sounds like you want the "competition finish" Pit.

Uncoated would be a nice option, however I probably would not choose it often.

The CF finish (or lack of finish) seems to have a tendency to expose the blades to more oxidation, and that's with INFI, I don't think I'd be terribly interested in a CF blade in SR101.
Shiny satin finish and coated are just fine for me on this one. Although I might be interested in trying it with a SR77 scrapper sometime.

Hmmmm, seems to be split down the middle of yes and depends on the model. For myself it would depend on the model even though any of the Scrappers I have I would take uncoated and the DF will be losing its coating soon.

I say no to the non-coated blades for the same price, especially if it's SR101. In my experience, SR101 has rusted more easily than any other blades I have, including 1095 and 5160.

I can't say I would be too interested in an uncoated blade, unless I was going to coat it with something else like Guncoat, Duracoat, or Cerakoat. OR perhaps adding a Patina in a pattern like my Dereg, but other than that, for a serious user knife like this one will be for me, crinkle coat it is. especially showing all the dings from the forging process, it would add more work to get it cleaned up before adding any finish I intended to anyways. It's easier to just strip the knife of the factory finish and proceed from there.

I said yes,I love the raw look on blades. Especially user blades. If they do rust on ya,or have a lot of tree sap & crap you can scotch-brite or sand it off no problem. It makes cleaning them off much easier. It would sure save a lot of production time too.

I agree with Myke, on a USER it will probably stay fairly rust free on its own because it is getting used all the time. AND in time it would develop it's own patina and that would help the rust problem a lot. I've used scotchbrite (and sand paper before that) on many USER knives. No biggie to me. My personal 2c.

I don't have a big problem with it on a user myself, but I have a feeling it might be a nightmare for Dan. Can you imagine how dissatisfied some customers would be if they're knives arrived with a good coat of rust already on it? I suspect that this could very likely happen with a CF finish on SR101. How about it Dan am I way off?

Jeff, I never thought about that. Guess I wouldn't make a very good businessman. Reckon I'll just stick to my night job.

I had another thought on this, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only time CF finish Busse's have been offered is at a few shows. If I'm right I'd guess it might be because of oxidation that might potentially occur in transit.
I have a CF Jackhammer and love it, but I did have to give it some extra care at first. I picked it up at Blade 09 I think...
