I got the rivet setting dies and the rivets 1/4" from Knifekits also. I have never had a rivet turn out bad. I put one die in a small vice, set the kydex to be fastened flat with rivet installed on the die and hit it with a hammer a few times. Next tool will be the small arbor press though.

I finally managed to get a few rivets to turn out right, just started tapping too hard I guess. The only problem I have now is the rivets I have from my local leather shop are too short to clear the kydex when used in a molded area, like the hilt of my Dereg. They're barely long enough to seal two flat pieces of Kydex together. Going to have to find another source for them, these aren't cutting it.

Well, my first effort was terrible, my second effort however, seems to be functional. I didn't have a press, so I just stood on a piece of wood over my foam. I used 2 layers per side of blue camping mat from Walmart. The roughcut was with a razor and the final was using a dremel and polished with some old blue jeans. I used a rivet die and hammer, but still split 3/4 rings. I think the rivets were too close to the edge for the die to sit properly. The carbon fiber texture was in the close-out bin, but I don't think it looks too bad. Enough excuses, time for pics: ![[Linked Image from i130.photobucket.com]](http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p271/allawd/Blades/03082011175.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i130.photobucket.com]](http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p271/allawd/Blades/03082011174.jpg)

do not worry about the eyelets, depends on where you got them, there was a bad batch going around a couple years ago.

Thanks guys. I sure won't be taking any close ups, but functional and eye-pleasing from a distance is good enough for me.
I need to come up with a better solution for a press. I'm planning to move this year, so acquiring anything non-essential is going to have to wait though.
