Hey all, long time lurker here, was just able to get registered thanks to Tom. Thank you Tom for helping me out. Been using SY knives for a while now, mostly a Scrapper 6 and a Dogfather. Also have a Team Team Edition Reg and a Ganza Desert 6.5 Reg. Big fan of Busse and SR as well. You guys already know it is an addiction, ha.

Most of my knive use comes on camping/hiking trips. Do alot of camping/hiking on the Appalachian Trail as well as the Stone Mountain area of NC. Also go out west once a year, Ogden Utah. Long time friend there who is Salt Lake City SWAT/EMT/Firefighter. Beautiful country out there. We usually go deep into the Unita mountains or up into Yellowstone. We have ventured south a few times down towards Bryce Canyon as well. That is more desert terrain, but still fun. The SY's have always served me well, super tough blades. Appreciate the work you guys put into them, and cannot wait for new additions to be available.

Again, thanks for the help Tom, and glad to be here with the other Dawgs, finally. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

James,

You've found an awesome place to call home. If you haven't been over to Rat Chat (Swamp Rat's forum) you should take a look around there too. I just assumed (you know what they say about ASSumptions) you knew about the Yard when I bought the SOD and DM. Sorry brother - I should have told you to stop by!!!

THere are a lot of good people here, and a wealth of blade related knowledge. Its a clean "family friendly" place to hang out.

Your trips sound awesome. My wife and I backpack, hike, and camp too. In fact, I can't wait to get out there for the first trip of the year. I had planned on making a two day "mock bug-out" trip into the Hoosier National Forrest this winter, but life conspired to keep me from doing so.

We'll start our camping season next month, but I might find my way into the woods sooner.

Your S6 and DF are legendary blades. I don't have a S6, but do have a couple of DF's. They are freaking awesome choppers.

If I can offer a scrap (pun intended) of advice...

I believe in the "blade trifecta" or "blade trinity" meaning that I like to have a small (3-4") fixed blade, medium (5-6") fixed blade, and large (10") fixed blade while in the field. If you don't have a good fit for the 3-4" blade then take a look at the Swamp Rat "Rodent Solution" that was just released....or....wait for Dan to release the CG version of the Scrapivore!

Welcome and stick around. We don't get as much traffic / activity as I'd like, but you could be part of the solution <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Gary. Yeah I have been a long time lurker here, and at the Rat forums, as well as the BF's. Only recently did I decide to try to register here, not sure why I didnt sooner. I have been on the BF's for about a year or so. I will definitely check out the Rat forums also. Thanks for that tip as well.

About the "blade trifecta", I usually do carry 3 blades with me on my trips as well. Have a Busse FFBM and DF for my big boys, have lots in the 6" range (Scrapper 6, RMD, Sar 6, Boss Jack), and I do have a Rodent Solution as well for my smaller variation. Also sometimes use a Boss Street or Sar 3. Gets tough sometimes deciding which threesome I want to pack for a particular trip. But I like variety, and being able to choose. I see it getting worse too, it's hard to say no to any SY, SR, or Busse. Everytime a new offering in on the table, I am like, "man, I need 2 of those" but I really don't. Think I have a sickness, ha.

It is all good as long as I get to the mailbox before the wife does 0.o

I lurked for about two years before I registered. During those two years I was very involved with a few survival related boards, but I don't invest much time there anymore.

LOL - it is an addiction. I like you always want to buy two of everything, because I want a 'safe queen' and a beater/user. It sounds like you have a great assortment of blades! I don't own a single Busse Combat, but tried to buy a B11 online last year (seller forgot about the deal). The FFBM would be THE BC to have IMO (after seeing knifetests.com). I like a lot of their other designs too (ASH, BS, SAR-5, etc). Sadly there is no INFI in my collection at this point.

The Yard's "performance to price ratio" is just impossible to beat. Take the Mil Reg for example. I don't care for "clip point" blade styles, but after BEATING THE CRAP out of one for over a year now...that has to be the best knife deal in the past ten years. I've grown to love that blade as much (if not more) than some of designs I thought I'd like better.

You're going to fit right in here!

Glad you're here James! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> You will see many of the same familiar names here as well as the Swamp and B/F, as many of us are all Dogs, Rats, and Hogs. You and Gary both can provide some excellent real-use testimony from your hiking/camping trips. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
