2) Light My Fire "Army Model" (Swedish Fire Steel)
3) Medium Weight Polypropylene (Shirt and Drawers)
4) USGI Gore-Tex ECWCS (Parka & Trousers)

Three primary concerns...

FIRE
WATER
SHELTER

48 hours isn't long enough to concern yourself with food (some high calorie food would be nice though). You have a canteen cup so water purification is addressed. This leaves hypothermia...

If the daypack is too small to carry rain gear - get a bigger ruck!!!!!!

You listed the S6 so I assumed (you know what they say about ASSuming things) you had selected the S6 for this exercise.

You stated the environment was timber so I would want a large chopper for use in constructing shelter and making fire. Therefore the SYKCO for the job is the DOGFATHER <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I would definitely go with an adjustable LED headlamp. I started using cheap Coleman headlamps recently, and LOVE them. I now only use hand-held torches for EDC where having a push-tail cap light works well when I can't CCW a handgun with a dedicated weapon light.

1. SOD as it would be an eaiser carry and can do pretty much the same thing as the DF but in a shorter/lighter package. Oh an ezlap model M is an integral part of the SOD sheath (or will be once I get it fixed up.

2. Fire steel, for obvious reasons, It is inside the "Fire kit" altoids tin box

3. Rain suit. Obvious reasons plus it will also be wind proof. I had one when my transportation was a bicycle in Japan. Light weight and they work.

4. Again with just 48 hours, food would not be a major concern but I would pack a large energy bar, just because I am diabetic and that would be a hedge against a crash, therefore I request I be allowed five items.

5. Led head light, my coleman, not overly expensive but has 3 output levels and would work great for a two nighter.

1. Dog father
2. Firesteel
3. My Adventure medical emergency sleeping bag.
4. Space blanket

I have shelter covered with a tarp cord and water is good to go with a canteen cup and water bottle. I build a nice fire gather plenty of wood hence the dogfather, use the space blanket as a windbreak/ reflector and climb in the back. I am covered for my basic needs for 48 hours. Warm, dry and hydrated.

There are so many Variables to these things...

Assuming that I'd have my regular pocket items, and knowing that I don't normally wear shorts, and considering the items already in the day pack, I'd add the DFLE, a Good Space Blanket or Sleeping Bag, and a good First Aid Kit.
