My .22 of choice is a Marlin Model 60. I don't LOVE the tube mag, but the micro-groove barrel makes for some super accurate shots. Plus, they're pretty reliable and also inexpensive on the secondhand market.

When I was a kid, my dad had a bolt action pump pellet rifle (don't remember the make) that was only supposed to be pumped three times according to the manual. If you went four or five, I guarantee you that thing was topping 1200fps. It was a beast. I want to get my hands on it eventually. I know he doesn't have much use for it anymore...

I need to get out and play with my 10-22 and Buckmark again.

Just traded into a like new Ruger Mark III it isnt much different than my 68 Ruger Standard.

The best trick I found when I was younger for killing off gophers is to buy some bubble yum brand bubble gum (if you can find it now) chew it up to the point where the flavor is gone (this is key). Then place the well chewed bubble yum inside the entrance of each hole after which you backfill the holes so that when the gopher has to reopen a hole to get fresh air and has to chew the gum up that is in the way. This then plugs up his guts and he swells up to die a well deserved painful death. It may work with other bubble gums, but they should have a similar softness to the bubble yum. It sounds silly, but it works and is much safer than shooting or gassing them, but maybe not as much fun. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

This thread reminds me of many hours spent in my childhood with air guns and .22 bolt action rifles.

A local shooting club had an outdoor range 50 yards down the road from where I grew up and for lunch money you could go get a box of .22 and a rifle and have fun.

Amazing thinking back at this now because I'm pretty sure the same people would get shut down today for renting even a single shot .22 to a 12 year old without any parents around <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

My first gun was a break barrel single shot air pistol. I was 10 and my dad got it for me for Christmas. My mom was livid, but I loved that thing despite the fact that I could barely lift it to keep it on target or load it myself <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Since then I had .177 and .22 air rifles (because you were allowed to own those without a hunting license).

Sad to think how the world has changed, especially the part I grew up in where these "toys" are now almost outlawed because politicians think they have to protect people from themselves. Please don't let it happen to America as well <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Nice that's good to hear. A friend of mine just got one also it seems they are getting pretty popular.

My favorite at this point is my Marlin model 60. Only thing not to like is reloading the tube-fed mag, but there are tools that can help with that, like the Spee-d-loader (which I don't have yet). The thing is accurate as anything, even with plain old iron sights.

Custom 10/22 that I built from my well worn Ruger hat I used as a kid. 20" fluted stainless barrel, B&C silhouette stock, and a Japanese Tasco 8-32 scope. I trued the receiver and trigger group myself. 2.0 pounds of pull.

I also love to shoot my Buckmark Silhouette - I've had that about 20 years now.
