They appear to be two totally different knives except for the handle. And If I remember correctly they are both Mil over run knives aren't they? I know Top one is a mil overrun. Thats the only one I have.

JJ - any reason you use your 6.5 reg more than the original?

It is adds less weight to my pack when hiking/cycling/camping and the original is more of a fighting design especially after my mod to it. The original Mil Overrun functions great as a utility blade, but is more suited for a combat zone than a relaxing weekend in the woods.

If I am deployed, I would leave the 6.5 at home and bring the Reg Bayonet. Chances are I wouldn't/won't need the fighting characteristics of the Reg Bayonet even in a combat zone, but I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

If I could only keep an original non-modified Reg or the 6.5, I'd go with the 6.5 for it's usability and weight.

Hope that helps.

Thank you!

I have to say, that is the first time I have seen an MRE heater used with a pan. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

lol, it didn't get it very warm at all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. Nothing like cold potatoes and sausage crumbles for breakfast after freezing all night.

You would have been better off sticking the MRE heater in a bag of water, then pouring the water into the taters. You can get the water really hot that way. New MREs come with a water bag just for that. Not sure if a ziplock would melt or not, but I doubt it.

I don't have a 6.5" Regulator for a comparison but the 7.5" Seems so balanced in hand and visually, that it would be my preferance. And the longer clip point seems to belong there. Even more so with the TT version if a fighter is wanted.
As a field knife I don't worry about prying and the extra length lends itself to a little chopping if necessary.
