Need some help from the CA gun owners. I am taking a job in SF. Not happy about leaving Seattle because we really love it here but the job is really good.

I have S&W M&P15T. If I make the stock fixed (A2 style) and change out the barrel for a bull barrel with no threading am I good to go as long as I only use 10 round mags? Or do I still need a bullet button?

Guidance needed please.

Thanks!

Hey there. I'm in California. Check this out. It should help.

For your question, if there's a detachable magazine, you cannot have a pistol grip.

If you keep the pistol grip, you'll need a bullet button. There's one company that sells a bullet button that can be adjusted from fixed magazine, to bullet button use, to regular mag release (no bullet required). I just got an AR lower (my first) to build, and I'll probably go with that type of bullet button. It can be seen here:

Good luck with the move!

Hmmm,

So, does the bullet button mean I can still have my collapsable stock and flash hider?

If the collapsible stock keeps it longer than 30", it looks like it'll be fine. As for the flash hider, I think, and I'm no expert, since the bullet button makes it a "fixed" magazine that requires a tool for removal, the flash hider might be fine.

The problem is a detachable magazine plus any other "scary" feature. If the magazine is detachable (no tool or bullet required to remove it), any other feature like a pistol grip, flash hider, etc. will make it an illegal assault weapon in this silly state.

Thank you. Ok - bullet button it is.

Feels like I am heading into the heart of the Death Star. I bought a Ruger Mini-14 at the Gunshow last week to cheer myself up. That has been such fun to shoot. It is pretty battered but suprisingly accurate. I am also thinking of getting a semi-auto shotgun before I head down.

I feel like I'm looking out from the Death Star to the free world! Seriously, the gun laws here suck. You can get semi-auto shotguns here, but not with pistol grips. My friend has a semi-auto Benelli that he uses for bird hunting. Have you seen that crazy new Kel-Tec that holds something like 14 shells? Not practical, but it could be cool!

I've got a Cali legal AR, get the prince 50. It's easy to install, I recommend using the allen screw over the bullet button and both should come in the pack. The collapsible stock is fine, the flash hider not so much. Those are illegal, what you want is a muzzle break. If it looks like a flash hider you just have to prove that it's not. So far I've had no problems, my friend sells firearms and he took care of me. Just get your stuff locally if you can and you should be alright. Where in Cali are you?

Thinking about a FNH SLP or the Remington Police 1187. I can see the Kel-Tec getting banned quickly...

Will be moving to Marin County in just over a week. Family will follow in the next few months.

Thank you - will look for a muzzle break. The prince 50 looks nice and cheap. Will order one.

Oh, just saw that you said SF. Good Luck!

Just kidding, you can order the prince 50 from anywhere really.
