For the Yard - Please note: Radiation shouldn't be an issue if you are more than 20 or so miles away, even under the worst case. These reactors in Japan have containment domes unlike Chernobyl, which had a open building with a tar paper roof. Chernobyl was also a graphite system that caught fire, differing from the Fukushima design.
I work at the Hanford nuclear reservation, and walk over the top of milions of gallons of screaming hot waste every day. A little concrete and steel between me and it take care of the radiation just fine.
The media, who would like us to be dependant on foreign oil, blow any nuclear issues way out of proportion. It's the drama. A well constructed power plant built in an area not prone to a large disaster, produces lots of power and lots of good paying jobs for Americans.
One of the main reasons that we are in the mess we are in is that we are not energy self sufficient. This and the effect of moving the majority of our manufacturing jobs to mexico or over seas has crippled this country. Even a lot of our material needs for the military (like steel) are imported. The country has been bankrupt since 2006, and a restructuring could be forced at any time.
Just keep stocked up on food and ammo, and hold on to your hats.
And buy American products - like Dan makes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
