I have a number of tomahawks, with varying handle materials...wood, cord wrap textured micarta...

I also have a number of tactical blades with micarta handles....

Rather than trying to figure out how to generate a good "tacky" grip on them, does anyone have some glove suggestions that would provide that solid, no-slip tactical grip...???

Thanks much -

Will, don't know about gripping wood, but when I was an active police officer I wore "shooting, or tactical" gloves. Not only did the provide a gripper feel, they kept my bare skin away from "undesirables" and their varied ailments. Just something to think about.

9 possibilities...none I can go and try on, so it looks like a "buy and try" - order a few...send back what doesn't work...long process but it should work in the end....

Too easy.

solid, no-slip tactical grip...???

What exactly are you going to be doing that requires a tactical grip? What is your definition of a tactical grip and how does it differ from good non-tactical grip?

There are many gloves out there that market themselves as tactical and put materials like Kevlar in the palms to prevent cuts and pricks. I have seen many like that, and not one actually prevented needles or slashes as advertised. Hell, the last pair my friend had wouldn't even prevent cactus needles from penetrating.

If you want something that not only looks cool (the main reason civilians buy "tactical" gear), but also provides some protection, check out assault gloves. A few companies sell these and we are issued them in the Marine Corps.

Here are the Wiley-X versions

Oakley also has a pair that ups the coolness factor by using carbon fiber for the knuckle guards, but it doesn't add any more protection. The Oakley are actually cheaper, at least at base clothing sales.

I get around quite well with a pair of gloves I bought at Home Depot, the brand name is Firm Grip (I guess, there wasn't anything else on the label, sooo...) and they are built with leather/suede insets on the palms that give a great deal of traction on whatever I may be trying to hold onto. as far as impact resistance goes, they're awesome. I've chopped on trees for hours with no pain in my hands. They also have a knuckle guard system built into them but not with the aggresive "knuckleduster" look my Wiley-Xs have. My Wiley-Xs are exactly like the ones JJ posted above, but mine are foliage green in color and have the full gauntlet. I actually prefer the cheap Home Depot gloves to the Wiley-Xs, honestly. The kidskin on the assault gloves just doesn't have the grippiness that suede does.

I agree with ECF. My gloves were a pair of cheapies from Galls and lasted me for all three years. You MIGHT look at driving (car or motorcycle) gloves as well.

Mechanix brand gloves work well. Go with goat or pig skin instead of cow.

Son of a gun, speaking of the devil!

Ireash posted a pic of the gloves I described in my earlier post in this thread. Handy how that worked out, Thanks Ireash!

Another vote for Mechanix. They don't just look great, they work great too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

I would agree the Mechanix look real nice.
