Posted these over on the BF also, so you may have seen these already. Sharpened a few of my knives on some paper wheels this weekend and they came out very nice. I had only attempted to sharpen one other knife prior to sharpening these. The learning curve was very fast and I was about to get these edges polished and hair shaving sharp in a matter of minutes on each one. These paper wheels are the real deal, loving em, gonna have to figure out how to get the Dogfather sharpened up next!

Tedwca uses Paper wheels to sharpen his blades I think he said one time. He really likes them as well. Me, I just use diamond and ceramic flat hones. I don't get edges like a lot of the folks here, but they work fine for me.

Soon, very soon. The S6 will be going with me on a section of the Appalachian Trail soon. Hopefully pics to follow!

Wow, nice edges!

Did you invest in these for a grinder? What machinery do you use these for? I'm bouncing back and forth between getting a belt sander and some scary fine grit belts, and a grinder and some much funer grit stones (the standard wheels are only good for sharpening tools like axes.)

Here is a picture of my setup. Bought the variable speed grinder at Lowe's hardware, bout $65 I think. Bought the wheels from my local Woodcraft store. You can check woodcraft.com I think to see if there is a location close to you. The wheels are called "Razor Sharp Edgemaking". Think they were around $50 for everything. So I have around $115 in my setup.

ECF, you might contact Tedwca, I THINK he did something about those paper wheels quite a while back, maybe a year or so.

Bapple, Thanks for post and the pics. What type of grits are the different wheels and do you use any type of polishing compound on them. I use a belt sander now but this looks interesting. Also, since the grinder is variable speed, what type of speeds did you use? Thanks

The system comes with 2 wheels. A 180 grit wheel for working up a burr and a slotted paper wheel to take off the burr and polish the edge. The system comes with some hard wax that you apply to the 180 grit wheel before each sharpening, keeps the heat down on the edge and makes the grit on the wheel last longer. System also comes with a jewelers rouge that you apply to the slotted wheel which acts as a polishing compound. Here is a link to the system:

Razor Sharp Edgemaking

My grinder ranges from aroune 1800 rpm to about 3200 rpm. I have the adjustment knob set in the middle, so I have it running around 2500 rpm. Haven't played with different speeds yet, although the 2500 speed seemed to work very well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
