Nice edges & system. It seems like the grinder setup has a smaller footprint/needs less space than a belt sander. Are the wheels rigid or soft,& do they give a slightly convexed edge or nice sharp angles? Sorry,it's hard to tell on my little laptop screen & with all the reflections in the polished edges.

The wheels are rigid for sure. It may could put a convex edge on by someone who has years of experience, but even then I think that would be difficult. These wheels excel at nice sharp v edges. Hope that helps <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Bapple,I was thinking because they look a bit like buffing wheels but made of paper they might be soft & leave a convexed edge. Good thread man, thanks.

I have the 10" Magnum wheels that are 1" wide. It doesn't seem like it should but you get a nice convex edge from them. I think it may be due to handholding them and the edge is not held perfectly flat. I'm pretty sure RichardJ has mentioned the same thing on BF. It's not a full convex like you'd get from using a belt sander on the entire blade, but the edge on mine is a convex.

Thanks for the compliments guys! Richard J from BF's is the one who got me started on the paper wheels. He has just joined the Yard here so if any of you have any questions about the wheels, look him up. He is a professional/expert on the wheels.

hi guys. i decided to join so i can answer any questions or help any of you out with the paper wheels. the setup bapple has is the best setup you can get. i myself use a 1725 rpm motor which is plenty fast enough to run the wheels. the website says 3400 rpm but it is not necessary to run them that fast.
you can only do a v edge on the grit wheel but you can maintain a convex edge on the slotted wheel by using it instead of a strop. the slotted wheel takes the place of a strop and does the job a lot quicker. i have a thread on bladeforums in maintainance, tinkering & embellishment. i have a link to the thread posted at my website home page.
