Here is a post Dan made when he introduced the De-Regulator

http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthread...true#Post377236

320 - 400 looks like the magic number

Never tried it because Dan ended up sendiing the De-Regulators out all sanded and pretty! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I was going to say rough with 320 then move up until you are happy.

cut the tips off with a coping saw and then sand them the rest of the way. i put neoprene on my knives and shape them down about the same way but i finish them off with these scotchbrite wheels i have. they get rid of the sanding lines and give the rubber a nice look and texture that makes them non slip.

paper wheel guru and knife sharpener. pm me if you need a knife sharpened.

If you remove the guards like your photoshopped image, you will have part of the "tang" exposed I think. My Reg has the tang slightly buried in the handle. Hope this makes sense. I saw a cross section of the Regulator somewhere. If I find it I will post a link so my reply is more understandable.

I found the pic, but it isn't the same as mine. You can see the bottom of the blade isn't buried in the handle as I suggested, but mine definitely was. I took the handle off of mine and the top of the handle has a depression from where the bottom of the blade was buried into it.

So I cut the basic shape with a knife then sanded it with mostly 120 grit and finished it of with 320.
It came out looking pretty good, now I can use the choil, which is pointless with the guard.
Now its a large bushcraft knife. It used to weigh 13.6 now its 13.4.

Thats how my deregulator was so I left some res-c to cover it.

Now to get kydex made for it. Does anyone know a kydex maker that uses morning wood camo?

Sneaky - I believe that Dave Brown of Buy Brown sheaths uses some of that Kydex.

Looks great. Try David Brown on the kydex morning wood material.
