As has been said, Bird Dogs are fairly rare, but as someone who has posted that I have a few, I will say that there's no shortage of people who ask if I'll let go of any (thus far the answer has always been no). The Bird Dog LE was first released for Blade 2008 (
Introducing The Bird Dog . . .Bird & Trout Knife!), and there were not enough left overs to be sold in the store. However, back before the revised business model where knives are ordered before being produced, small remainders were sold via the Scrap Yard equivalent of a 'ganza, which was called a "dog bowl", there was a series of three in September 2008 (just after Renee joined the Scrap Yard crew):
The first
Dog Bowl featured MPLEs.
Dog Bowl #2 featured BDLEs, which is where I got my first pair.
Dog Bowl #3 Pricing and Procedures featured tan Yard Keepers.
I was able to pick up a couple more BDLEs at the Spring 2009 Knob Creek and a final one at the Fall 2010 show. I don't know when Bird Dog Special Editions (non-numbered, black handle) first appeared, but I don't recall ever actually seeing one in-person, so they're quite rare.
