horndog, check out the scrapizashi handle thread i started. there are pictures of scotchbrite wheels i use for smoothing neoprene handles on knives. they work good for satin finishes on knives also.

yesterday my cousin brought me 2 huge meat cleavers that were used to cut large critters in half with. the edges are in real bad shape so i'll be putting a convex edge on both of them.

i'll rough it out with my right angle grinder before moving to my belt sander. i'll have to make a heavy duty table on my belt sander to rest the head on. i'm going to get them weighed but i would guess they are over 10# and maybe close to 15#.

i was up at a friends house showing him the cleavers and he started to tell me about seeing a show where someone was throwing meat cleavers and sticking them in a wall. he told me i should try to stick one of the big ones in this big maple tree that he is going to have cut down.

i grabbed 1 of the big ones and gave it a throw at the tree. it would have stuck but it hit at the side of the tree and shaved off a layer of bark before hitting the other trunk growing beside it and falling to the ground.

i tried throwing the other one and it almost stuck a few times. the handle on both are sharp edged in spots and you have to be careful not to get cut so throwing them was hard.

throwing the smaller cleavers maybe but the large ones will wear on you fast. thats a lot of steel to be throwing.
