The Survival Medicine Handbook is an excellent source of information, including proper use of antibiotics.

One Item the I have never seen listed in any FAK is a Styptic pencil. Yeah you know, the white kinda hard looking burns like crazy on a cut thingy. For you younger folks (and Ray, the poor soul) it is what USED to be in about every household. When you would cut yourself you would just slightly wet the end of the "Pencil" and then rub it all over the cut and the bleeding would be stopped. I had to use mine once again when I scratched myself pretty good and it would just "seep" blood.
Once again for all you younger folks (and Ray, seeing as how he has never cut himself shaving) this what it is.
The main ingredient in a styptic pencil is anhydrous aluminum sulfate; an agent that restricts blood flow, allowing a cut to close quickly.

They are probably most often used after getting a nick while shaving, or at least they used to be used for that purpose.

My whiskers just keel over before the razor gets there. I’ve used the same blade for 7 years now.

Yup you are correct Tom. But they also work for scraps and scratches as well. Still burns like fire though. For some reason I bleed a lot easier than I used to and don't clot as fast.

Hey Randy, what do you use on a turnip after you’ve squeezed the blood out of it. Oh wait, it shouldn’t bleed anymore after you get done with it.

Ray, he just puts a mini-tourniquet on it.

I have checked Walmart, CVS, Another WELL STOCKED Pharmacy plus a second Walmart store AND Sams Club. Can't find a Styptic pencil anywhere. I have one here a the house I got a few years ago at Wally World but they don't have them any more. I would like to have one for each Med kit I am building back up. Oh well I can probably find them on Amazon. I gotta get some things there anyway so what's another.

Got my ORCA Tactical Gear FAK yesterday and boy do I like it. It is bigger than either one of my Military issue bags with more elastic and pockets inside and upon initial look see, I really like it. I think it will handle everything I need to put in it and I will probably get at lest one more. Oh and the one I got is this one. https://www.orcatacticalgear.com/co...rip-away-emt-medical-first-aid-pouch-redAnd here is another take on an FAK. Just wait for the commercial to end, it's only a few seconds long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AUmQZOp8q0&feature=emb_rel_end
