Unfortunately in the recent months, my Deregulator was exposed to a bit of humidity in the cab of my truck, and was beginning to show a few red rust spots, despite the patina and TW-25B treatment I had applied to it. SO, much to my dismay I had to polish the blade to remove the rust, which also removed the old Patina...

This is what the blade used to look like:

Alas, the old patina was nearly completely removed. There was a faint shadow of the darker striping left over, presumably not removed by the polishing since it's in the pores of the metal.

However, instead of taking the time to reapply the same patina (I was tired!), I simply wrapped it in a paper towel, poured lime juice over the towel, andtied a couple rubber bands around it to hold the acid against the metal. I came back an hour later, and found this!

And the patina even seeped into the Scrapyard Logo, although you can't see the Dog's head in the picture, it is still there, although a lot more faintly. I'm assuming it wasn't stamped as deeply into the metal, which is probably why it doesn't show up as well

The red rust after the acid processed cleaned off easily, and the blade looks awesome! I didn't even have to do anything, the pattern was formed from the quilting in the paper towel I used. I love it!

Wow that Patina looked great! What process did you use for that patina?

I soaked a paper towel, the cheap store brand, in lime juice and wrapped it around the blade. Tightened it down with a couple rubber bands and a twist tie, and walked away. I had actually intended for the paper towel to apply a even-ish patina, but when i peeled the paper towel off, i guess the texture of the towel didnt apply juice as evenly as i had expected. Cant argue with the results

I wasn't that fond of the original patina, but I really like this one. Very nice!

I like the second patina for sure, sometimes it is better to be lucky than good!
