A leatherman with a 22 mag pistol that folds out.
Seriously though, a multitool will be the first thing I grab in a SHTF moment. Well I have a leatherman (two actually) and I have a high standard 22 mag derringer so I guess I sorta have your dream survival knife, kinda sorta but different.

My dream survival knife evolves from time to time, but the DFLE is pretty close to perfect for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I have my BOB set up with with a Gerber LMF2 and a larger Ka-bar but I have never been truly happy with the set up. I am looking at a Esee Junglas to replace my 12inch ka-bar. Its not the SYDF but it might be my only option. I had a gerber camp axe and a gerber machete but they both can only be used for there designed task and have to much weight. If I had to chose just one knife I would chose a large blade. I can always choke up and use the tip. I have heard about a place to sell and swap busse and scrapyard knives but haven't found it could and body post a link?

A lot of Bussekin knives are sold over on blade forums, not sure about knife forums.

I really like the new War Dog for this role. Its a bit bigger than my Fallkniven F1, with great blade steel and nice profile for all around woods use.

I think I just got my dream survival knife in the mail today. It's a skinny ASH1 who pigged out a bit and gained some girth. It's .223" at the start of the spine and tapers to .201". Fits perfectly in my hands with its green mags.

Welcome to the Yard! I'm a +1 on the Chopwieler. As was posted earlier, blade forums has a whole section devoted to the buying and selling of bussekin. Knife forums also has some that come up occasionally as does jerzee devil (warning though, it's not quite as family friendly over there as the first two).

Welcome gd. Cool topic, and i think its the root of all our searches, and the reason i started as an amatuer knife maker. But for now, i would have to say that my favorite all-around, if i only had one knife, do-it-all, indestructible, SHTF, total beast of a tool, is my Regulator. I'm sure that if you get your hands on one you wont be disappointed. Regards, Mike Mike, Curious about that choice. I have a Regulator and agree that it's a beast, but one thing has concerned me about it in the role you describe: the tip is very pointy; comparatively thin and sharp and, well, pointy. That can be a good thing when you need it, but I have wondered how that would work out in hard use as you describe. How has it fared in your use?
