Hi all, My first thread here.

I've shown most of these pics over at swamp some time ago. They are from our desert country and surrounds, and typify's the type of country that I spent most of my working life on cattle stations.

properties out here are measured in square miles, the normal station is around 1,000 square miles, some of them reaching fifteen thousand, on the larger ones.

Not my pics, I'm not that good, but they bring back great memories for me of a life that I use to know.

Hope you enjoy them.

Ian.

Pretty country, but awfully dry for the most part!

Here's a few more, taken by myself, some in different locations, but all to the north of the desert country.

Catching Buff for a zoo somewhere on the continent.
That's a younger me bent over on the back of the LC.

If you look into the distance you can see one of the young fellas tailing a young Buff, neither of these boys had boots on. He would have jumped out of the LC and grabbed it by the tail and would have been in the process of throwing it, and using a bull strap kept it there until we got back to him. All of these Buffalo we were catching were youngsters.

Couple more in a different area.

This last pic was taken from horseback, we were out in what was called bush paddock looking for mobs of cattle. Bush paddock was 800 square miles.
I was taking this pic just as the bull on the left started to charge. I was on a good cattle horse so wasn't in any great danger.

I didn't get to take many pictures on this station as my camera died shortly after from dust inhalation. It seems carrying it in a saddle bag wasn't in it's design criteria.

Incidentally, this station had some of the best cattle horses that I have ever ridden. When I put in my notice to come back down south, as I had received a letter that my father was dying of cancer. I asked if I could buy two horses that had been in my care, both baldy chestnuts, (sorrel) I was told that if I didn't want anyone else to ride them, take them away from the head-station somewhere and shoot them, but I was unable to buy them as it was company policy not to sell horses under any circumstances. Of course I turned them out. They were both five year old geldings.

Cheers, Ian.

Nice Pictures as well Ian. Man it is hard to believe anything can live out in that desert environment.

Awesome pictures! I love that red sand, our Kalahari has the same look, once that sand gets in your shoes you always want to go back. Hard country, but wonderful!

Brilliant pics...

I must say that Dingo in the beginning looks fit and healthy...

The Landcruiser on the other hand definitely doesn't, looks like it's been seriously punished...
