In my attempt to avoid buying a 511 so I can afford a bigger blade, I want to ask the experts. Which is a better choice 911 vs 711?
I feel I am covered in the 4-6 inch range (war dog), but my biggest knife now is a 6.5" Regulator. What should I know about pros/cons of a 711 vs 911?
To start, I feel like they are both large enough to make no difference in scaring the local populous where I live. VA does not have a length restriction for open fixed blade carry. Certain counties probably would ban both. Current thought is that the 911 is probably the way to go.

I would go with the 911 over the 711 if I had to pick just one. You can do more cutting tasks with a larger blade. The extra length and weight of the 911 is going to make it a more efficient chopper IMO.

Since you already have 6.5 inch blade I'd go with the 911.

The 911 is definitely a really nice blade, I too am holding out for it (and the 311/411)

I agree With Banana-Clip. Why sacrifice two inches of blade length just to save an ounce or two. The difference in length won't matter that much as for carry purposes but could make a big difference "Out there" where the extra two inches could mean the difference in getting it done or just getting (barely) by.
If I was just going to be walking around "day hiking" I would carry my bulldog or SOD. If I was going on an extended trip, even overnight camping, it would be my Dog father AND the Bulldog. Oh yeah and my WarDog as well and Possibly my Muppy just because it's so handy.

+1 911.
If you are covered in the 4"-6" range you should go with the bigger chopper.
I usually like a 4"-6" and 8"-10" blade combo. If I can't have both I like my 7" Camp Tramp. I see mid sizers like the 711 as a great one knife option.

Everyone is going to tell you to get the 911, because its been a LONG time since the Yard released a "big chopper".
Your 6.5" Reg's blade is too thick for a lot of tasks. I have a standard Mil Reg, and while I love the knife...its not a good general use blade.
If money were an issue - I'd sell your 6.5" Reg and buy a 711 for GP use and 911 for batoning, etc.

Architect brings up good logic.
What GP use would a 711 do that a war dog can't do and a 911 would not be better for? Or did you mean as a one knife solution?

another vote for 911 here, while I like the 7 inch blades, when you have a small utility type blade along with a large chopper there really is no reason to have a 7 incher imho
