I really like how the blade turned out.

Is there a purpose for SY having those lines left on the blade?

Thanks Steeley, appreciate the link. I did some searching last night...there's a lot of variations to people's preference on how to approach cold-bluing. Miles was also kind enough to answer some of my questions personally. Thank you, sir!
GFJ, we haven't heard from Dan on this. There was some initial discussion about this...but we were thinking of them in the context of reducing friction on the blade. After seeing Blake's 511 that Miles has posted, it does look rather coarse...and I'm not sure what the purpose would be, other than reduced mfg cost??? I agree with Pitman's earlier posts (another thread) that this looks like it may increase friction on the blade. I'm looking forward to getting mine and trying it out...in the meantime, maybe the boss will be along to give us some insight!!

Reducing manufacturing costs sounds like the most appropriate answer.

When I originally saw Tom's...they looked more clean, but that may be due to his polishing. The one's here look more crude. I guess, if you never removed the coating...then the coating on the edges would wear, leaving coating still in tact inside the grooves. Would this help smooth out the knife? Dan, throw us a clue please sir.

I am going to blue my Kabar zombie killer tomorrow. Got it etched and polished at 1500 grit sandpaper. After I blue it I hope it looks good enough to try it on my 511. I have heard heating the bluing up will make it bluer on the blade.

Nice bluing job. Could you see the lines with the coating on?

Honestly guys the grind lines on this knife are smoother than you think my camera not so good so but to answer another question yes you can notice the grind lines with the coating on under light. Which is one reason why Blake wanted me to blue it and as far as use he has had no issue with knife dragging or otherwise. I would say another thing is the coating almost instantly came off with took less than 20 min which to me using it with coating would not have kept the grind lines hidden or filled in for that matter if it came off that easily.
