Haven't seen the news for a while, how IS the fires? And the dry weather and heat?

Better. I think 60% contained as of yesterday? They have started letting families go back and see if they have anything

I think I heard they are about to ban smoking....they may have just been talking about one specific event or something though.

Still no sign of rain And...we're back in the 100's this week...

We had a few good days of 70's for the high and one night it got down to I THINK 47. GREAT WEATHER as far as I am concerned. But yesterday it got back up to 88 and today they are calling for over 90 then back to highs in the 70's.

Sorry OP...got off topic.

I'm hoping for a CABS style knife, at a Kin style price.

Thin, no choil for snagging skin / guts / meat, 3.5-4" blade...and heck, throw mudders on it while you're at it

Hey it happens sometimes, we get off on tangents but as long as we don't completely change the subject of the thread.

That would be freaking awesome for a hunting knife!

Have you guys seen the NEW Ka-bar it's about half again as large as the regular ones. There's an article about it in the latest issue of Tactical knives.

I usually carry one of these on my belt then the rest plus a tomahawk and saw in my "death bag" for skinning and quartering a moose.

I started my antelope this year with my War Dog. Didn't have a chance to take any pics though because I kinda rushed through it. I thought it would work great but it was just too big so I ended up transitioning to one of my Schrade Sharp Fingers and using it instead. Smaller knives just handle better for me. I would like a Scrap Muk but since they are so hard to come by I ended up buying a nice skinner from a knife maker on bladeforums that is somewhat similar to a Muk. Hopefully next year I draw a deer tag and I can give it a go. Or I might just put it to use on some coyotes this winter.

AndrewS, you might consider the Rodent Solution on sale over at Swamp Rat Knives. It's got a blade size perfect for small whitetails. I'd also check out the Hairy Carry and/or the Vex. You can sometimes pick 'em up on the secondary market for reasonable prices. The RS is SR101, the HC is 154CM, and the Vex is D2.

The Yard Muk is a well designed blade. I've used it to butcher two deer. I like the feel--although a bit thinner would be nice for this blade--and the sweep of the blade that still provides a useable tip is fantastic. It "dulled" MUCH faster than the SR101, but not horribly--I gave it a few swipes on a ceramic rod after 1 and a half deer and it was shaving sharp again.

The HC is next in the hopper for deer duty. It has a MUCH more useable choil than the RS and is just a SLIGHT bit shorter than the RS. I am really looking forward to that one. I see that as being a heckuva deer blade. I'm sure it would work great on antelope as well
