[censored] southern summers are so hot and humid...makes it harder to carry stuff and keep it out of sight.

yes sir, gotta start somewhere! and that seems a good place <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Good place to start. I would get a bone stock AR in .223 for starters. Rock River or Bushmaster. A3 with detachable carry handle to learn irons and then get an optic at some point. About my only requirement for extra stuff on AR's is a light. I use a GG&G mount and an Insight M3. It's not the best, but I can't drop $500-$650 on a SureFire "Weapon light".

I agree with the RRA or Bushmaster recommendation.

It's hot as all heck, 110 on Friday for a few days and I will be out in the desert all day Sat. I always sweat like a pig, but that's the way it goes.

Green followers are great. I tried some of the Magpul types but I did not notice the special coating or whatever the heck is on them that makes the cool makes any difference.
