Holy, Smoke, are you sure you're only in your 30's?

Late 30's, but remember....

My first rifle was an AR15 when I was 10 years old. My uncle and I built that rifle from a parts kit on my grandmother's kitchen table. By the time I was 11 I had an AR15, Colt CAR15, and Colt 1911.

I grew up with in a survivalist environment that exposed me to a lot of military weapons, gear, knowledge, training, etc. Not your typical childhood.

If it means anything to readers:

I only own a few rifles now: Arsenal SGL21, Arsenal SLR106FR, BCM Hammer Forged MidLength, Colt 6520 (I have two of these), DSA FAL 16" Fixed Stock, DSA FAL 18" Para Folding Stock, Ruger 10/22 (I have two of these), Ruger GSR, Sig556 Classic (for sale), Springfield Armory M1A (for sale).

These are the guns that my collection "boiled down to" over the years. I would stake my life an any of the above, and don't see a need to have a dozen military rifles anymore.

ETA:

I'm not listing the M1A and Sig556 for sale to solicit buyers (that's against the rules here) - I'm listing them to show that I no longer want them in my collection because my bases are adequately covered with the other rifles (and am more comfortable with the other designs).

Honestly, my wife with the scoped 10/22 and I with the scoped GSR would make a well rounded "TEOTWAWKI bug out" arsenal. Simple, reliable, accurate, easy to maintain. I'm not looking for a fight so I'd rather avoid people anyway!

How much ammo is enough ammo?

Home, car, person?

HOME

22LR = 5000 MINIMUM. I have approx 3k
9mm or 45Acp = 1000 per FIREARM I have approx 4k
223 = 2000 per FIREARM. I don't own one currently but hope to in the near future. At that point I will likely also purchase a case of steel cased stuff to see how it goes.
308 = 1000 per FIREARM I have approx 300 rounds.
12 Gauge = 250 Slugs, 500 Buck, 1000 Shot (BB, 4, 8's) I only use shotguns to shoot birds so I won't stockpile much ammo for this. None the less I usually have about 2 flats of bird shot

I checked the expiration dates on all of our stored canned goods and dry goods.

We also bought 40 cans of beans and vegetables along with $157 worth of wool socks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Patty lost a filling the other day, had it replaced today. Got to talking to the dentist (she used a Walmart bought temporary filling material) and he said he always takes some of that when he goes camping. I never thought of that before, but it WILL be going in "The Kit"!

Oh and Ora Gel would be a nice addition as well. Gotta hit up Wallyworld in the next couple days anyway.

I inventoried my gear and supplies at home. Then made a list of stuff that I need to get or that I am in short supply on.

I took the time to really put a wicked edge on a 511.

Found and haggled on a price for a Kifaru Marauder pack... I already have one decent pack and am still on the fence if I need this. Thoughts?

I spent 3 hours plotting a route on a map of the Mojave Desert on an overlay. I designated 6 check points, plus 6 alternate check points on the alt. route, defined the azimuths (converted them from map grid azimuths to magnetic azimuths), distances and defined three predetermined targets for supporting fire.

I will patrol this route soon.
